Beauty Oils for Winter Skin

- Beauty

I wasn’t too sold on the idea of oils for skin for the longest time, mostly because I’ve battled combination/oily and acne-prone skin for close to 9 years. Why would I want to add more oil to my skin? Won’t it cause break outs? Well I am SO glad I have gotten over this and actually started using oils for my skin because the results have been amazing. Here are a few ways I’ve been using different oils in my beauty routine:

Josie Argan Oil: I talked about this oil in my 2013 Beauty Favorites video, and I continue to use it on a daily basis, sometimes twice a day. I use this oil to apply all over my face, after I moisturize. I will use about 2-3 drops, rub the oil in my palms and then apply it all over my face. Since I am already beginning to see some crow’s feet (yikes!) I apply a couple extra drops right around the edge of my eye. My skin has felt so much smoother and looks more vibrant thanks to this oil. It has also prevented my skin from getting too dry this winter. I usually have a period of time where I might start to peel from dry skin, while still being oily in my T-zone, but that hasn’t happened this year and I have been using this oil since October! I use this oil every night.

Tarte Pure Maracuja Oil: This oil is also amazing and can be used the same way as the argan oil. I have been using this oil around my eyes for extra moisture, and again to help prevent crow’s feet and wrinkles around the eyes. I use this both morning and night.

Vitamin E Oil: This oil is perfect for adding a little extra moisture to areas that get really dry during the winter. I use a little bit to add to my elbows and my hands. These areas get so dry during the winter, and this adds instant extra moisture. You could use the other oils for this purpose as well, but I like to save the more expensive options to use on my face. I use this oil anytime I notice my elbows or hands are extra dry.

Coconut Oil: I’m pretty sure we all know how much coconut oil can be used for, but I don’t think it can be emphasized enough (especially for the low price tag)! I have used it for acne and as a body moisturizer and well obviously that’s still a great reason to use it in the winter. Here are a couple other ways I like to use it: Use it to remove your makeup! It is gentle and leaves you feeling moisturized compared to some makeup removers that make me feel like I’ve completely stripped my face of all its natural oils and feel super dry. Another fun way to use it is to add a bit of a highlight over your blush! I love this idea for winter because it leaves a more natural glow than some other highlighting products, and it is healthy and moisturizing. If you haven’t started using coconut oil for everything in your life, you should start now!

Jasmine & Argan Body Oil: Don’t forget about the rest of your body! One of the best things you can do for your skin during the winter is to take a mildly warm shower vs. a completely hot shower. I know if you live in a colder climate like me, it is really hard to resist those hot showers, but it is so bad for your skin. Also, take enough time in the morning, or whenever you shower, to dry off as much as possible without a towel. And use a body oil! Use the body oil after a shower and massage onto your skin. I would choose an argan oil and a hint of jasmine or lavender for a fresh, relaxing scent.

***These are all recommendations from my personal experience! I have combination/acne-prone skin and using oils HAS NOT made me break out. If anything, it has given me healthier skin. I have been breaking out less lately, and I think that is for a lot of reasons I might do a post on in the near future, but I truly believe using oils has been helping with improvements in my overall skin texture and helping prevent dry skin/giving me super smooth skin! But please do your research, I read tons of reviews before I ever buy or use a product and writing this post is just to give you my viewpoint of these products and why using oils is beneficial for your skin in general. Hope you found this post helpful!

I use beauty oils everyday. It is the only way I can save my skin from the harsh winter weather.

I literally have 4-5 different moisturizing lotions on my nightstand to combat this dry winter skin and nothing does the trick. I am going to try coconut oil because I’ve heard good things. Who do you use it for acne? Do you leave it on blemishes overnight? This stuff sounds like the miracle cure!

These look like gorgeous oils!! I was the same, I didn’t use oils because my skin is prone to break outs, but it has actually helped a lot keeping it moisturised xx

I have struggled with the idea of adding more oil to my face too! I have to blot a few times a day so I will have to reconsider my Josie Argan oil!
