Happy New Year! 2016 Goals

The Beginning

It’s here, we are here! It’s 2016. Happy New Year! I hope you had a wonderful New Year’s Eve! As I have over the past four years, I love to share my goals/resolutions for the year. Here are my goals for 2016:

{Dress Up More Often} – Between being at a job I didn’t love at the beginning of the year, and switching to a very casual dressed work environment in June, I haven’t been dressing up as much as I like to. Maybe it sounds silly, but I love dressing up and it’s a part of who I am! I have more confidence and feel better when I have put in the effort to put my best foot forward. It isn’t for anyone but myself and I’ve noticed this year when I dress down, I don’t feel as good, and seem to be less productive. I’m bound and determined to wear my work dresses, heels and pencil skirts again!

{Do Things that Make Me Feel Uncomfortable} – I mentioned this in my 2015 resolutions, but it’s something I still need to focus on. Talk to more people at work. Speak up more at meetings with ideas. Attend more local blogger events. Attend a blogger event somewhere else. Do more YouTube videos. Attend networking events. Take up Tae Kwon Do again or take a class to learn another language. Anything that makes me uncomfortable and pushes me outside of my comfort zone!

{Get On YouTube!} – So I’m technically on YouTube, but I mean actually be a YouTuber this year! From beauty product reviews to vlogs, I want to share more about my life and really allow people to get to know me more on a personal level. I feel like it’s difficult through pictures on a blog and Instagram, even though I try to be creative and have fun with my writing on here, I’m sure I’m still not fully expressing myself or sharing my personality. I also just think there is such a great community on there that I’d love to be a part of!

{Send Out Cards & Call Friends on a Weekly Basis} – Two years ago, I decided to send out more mail to friends and failed miserably. This year in my planner, I’m going to write down one of my best friend’s names every week and call them, and write down another friend’s name and send them a letter. I find the older we get, the busier we all seem to get (being social where we live, growing in our careers, spending more time with significant others, some having children, spending time with family and our significant others’ families, etc.) I just want to make sure they all know how much they mean to me and want to keep up with their lives!

{Get My Savings on Track} – I am feeling more financially sound after this past year, but definitely have some major savings goals. Between having a variable expenses account, saving up for a down payment on a house, saving for more travel experiences and just keeping that emergency fund in check! I am going to be doing better about my clothing budget and hope to thrift more again this year to help keep the costs low.

{Lose the Last Bit of Weight & Maintain} – I am so happy to report I have maintained my weight over the past couple years. While I wanted to lose more weight, I am OKAY with this because overall I want to be healthy long term, not just be on fad diet to fad diet and mess it all up in a year or two. Anyway, I feel like I finally enjoy working out again. It isn’t a major pain to get to the gym unless if I’m extremely tired or busy, which isn’t often. In fact, I’ve gone the past few days and am feeling great. I also feel like food wise it will be SO much easier soon. Why you ask? Because I’m horrible at packing lunches and was eating crap for lunch… wraps with cheese and ranch, grilled cheese sandwiches, fat-filled pasta salads, you get my drift. Now that my company is moving from an office park to our own building, we will also be getting lunch every day, for under $25 out of our paycheck! That’s right! A full salad bar, hot entrees and lots of La Croix, all for less than $2.60 per meal. I can eat as much healthy veggies and salad as I want a day for $2.60. How amazing is that? So pumped! Anyway, I have been doing well with breakfast and making dinner (dinner isn’t always super healthy per say, but in moderation, not too bad and still better than eating out). Anyway, ideally I’d like to lose 10 pounds over the next year and keep it off!

{Travel, Travel, Travel!} – So again like my goals for 2015, I’m just totally about more adventures and traveling, even if it is just somewhere local I’ve never been before. We are going to San Francisco in January and Seattle in March, so we are already off to a good start. A few more places on my list in 2016, Dallas again to visit my best friend, Denver to visit my older sister when she moves there, hopefully New York for fashion week and my biggest travel goal this year – save up for London! It has been far too long my love!

So there you have it. My main goals this year. What are yours?!

I also want to dress up more at work. It’s so laid back (and I’m always freezing in the office) that I don’t care what I wear. But I’m the same way and enjoy putting an outfit together… I guess that’s why we are bloggers right haha?! So excited for 2016 for you! Happy New Year Rachel!

I love the idea of sending a card or calling a friend and writing the friends name in the planner is such a good way to make sure you stay on track! I work from home and getting dressed up helps me be more productive too! Happy New Year!

So many of our ideas and goals for 2016 are the same. I also want to remind my family, friends and loved ones a lot more by calling them often, sending them cards, meeting them for coffee and cards etc. I am also 100% with you on traveling more, dressing up more, losing some extra pounds I may have, and also to save up as much as possible. I basically want to live life more and live richer with more joy and contentment in my life. This was so well-written.

    Happy 2016 Rachel!

[…] And I’ll tell you what, nothing has been truer than this statement: “You have limited time there, so take advantage of every opportunity and save the sad days for when you return home – you might end up missing the place you studied abroad more than you ever missed home.” I can’t tell how much my heart still aches to be in London! I loved every moment of being there, and I can’t wait until my next chance to go. With that said, I have a very long bucket list of places I want to travel, and I’m worried I won’t make it. Traveling can be expensive (mostly due to flight costs – especially going overseas) and without unlimited days off from work, planning out trips every year can be interesting. But, that’s why this year more than ever I am working to hit my savings goals, and starting a variable expenses account – including a budget for traveling.
