What I’m Packing for VEISHEA

Veishea

Last year I created a set on Polyvore entitled What I’m Packing for VEISHEA because I am a very visual person and wanted to make sure I packed all the right things.

VEISHEA for Iowa Staters is just another holiday…. we prep, we plan and we look forward to it each and every year! It is such a fun event that people from all over Iowa come to check it out,  even people from surrounding states.  And yes, even people from the University of Iowa get their party pants on and actually enjoy their time in Ames. In fact, for being an Iowa native, I might get just as excited for Veishea as Californians get for Coachella.

It is a time to dress your best and bring out all the colorful, fun items for spring. I typically always buy something new for VEISHEA and there are a few items on my packing list that are newcomers to my closet (will be recapping these new purchases at the end of the month). Unfortunately it is going to be kind of chilly (between 40-55 all weekend), so daytime attire of jeans, flats, boots and a trench coat is a must. I am ensuring that I have plenty of options for my three nights there. Like I said, it is a time where everyone is dressed to impress!

VEISHEA is one of the events I look forward to coming back for as an alum of Iowa State University and this year is even more special because my little sister is a freshman there. It will be fun to catch up with friends who are still in Ames and hang out with her while meeting some of her friends. Mostly, I love coming back to Iowa to reminisce on my own experience at Iowa State. And this weekend, it won’t get much better than sleeping my on sister’s futon. Oh the college life, how I miss you!

Spring Wishlist

Spring Wishlist

I have to admit I have been pretty uninspired lately. From an unorganized closet to the never-ending winter weather, I just mentally and physically feel “blah”… so instead of focusing on these negative aspects, I decided to make a wishlist of some things that are bright, fun and cheery.  I may not need them as much as I need some other wardrobe staples, but just as I dream about a gorgeous walk-in closet one day, I can dream about adding all of these pieces to my soon-to-be organized closet, right?

I am hoping that a trip home to Iowa this weekend will help me refresh and rejuvenate. Some weekends, I just need a change of pace, I think everyone does. It feels like I haven’t seen my family in forever (we are approaching 3 months of not seeing them and I only live 3.5 hours away). I always want to visit more, but somehow the weeks and weekends just get away from me!

I hope you all are doing well, and staying positive even in this “lovely” winter we are having. Happy Hump Day!

Chambray + Metallic Skirt

Chambray + Metallic Skirt

So, I’ve seen this kind of look a few times and love the idea of a chambray shirt with a sequin skirt, but for work, a metallic skirt works a little better. I’ve seen Laura and Jessie (found on Pinterest, her blog is now found under Fashion Salade rock this look, and honestly this look all came together when I decided I wanted to wear my denim dress (last seen here).  But of course my struggle of getting ready in the morning… I didn’t know what to wear with my denim dress, so I instead turned it into a shirt by adding a thrifted metallic skirt and a thin leopard print belt. Adding a black blazer and some booties, I had my version of this look complete! Comfy, yet cute and I love that I was able to get more use out of my denim dress! Do you like to wear your dresses as skirts or shirts?

Happy Friday, I hope you all have a fabulous weekend!

It’s the Weekend

Life

Life This Week

Life has been interesting as of lately. This week we went couch shopping as our poor old couch is on its last leg (literally). Gotta love when unexpected expenses come up! Also, I’ve rearranged  changed my priorities in the past week with the top ones being working out/eating healthy and getting organized. There has been a lack of outfit posts lately too, which has been a combination of me coming home and changing into work out clothes ASAP and not wanting to stand outside in the cold. Indoor pictures don’t ever turn out well in our apartment because we have a lack of lighting (no central lighting, just the lamps that we have bought and placed in rooms). So anyway, I started Jillian Michael’s 30 Day Shred on Tuesday and have been sore and tired ever since. Seriously though, I hope it will pay off and get me back on track to working out on a consistent basis and being healthy along with a good diet (hopefully I stick to the full 30 day shred).  I can’t focus my energy in all the places I want to right now, so I have to prioritize and this is how it has turned out for me.

January Budget

Recent Purchases
I can tell you right now I had quite the successful month! I set my budget at $200 (which is a little higher than I want to go the rest of the year, but it is also birthday month, so it was okay in my mind). I ended up spending LESS than my budget! (Patting myself on the back because I NEVER do that!)  For $139.03 I got two new scarves, two new blouses, a dress, a faux fur embellished vest, a pair of glitter strapped heels and a new workout outfit! Also, after laying out all of my purchases together I don’t think I was over Christmas and New Years (hence all the green & red and glitter shoes).
Red Blouse, Apple Branches Vintage (Etsy Store) $5.00 + $4.50 S&H = $9.50
Sheer Purple Dot Blouse, Apple Branches Vintage (Etsy Store) $5.00 + $4.50 S&H = $9.50
Green Dress, Land’s End $25.94 (including S&H) Available here
Faux Fur Vest, ShopGoodwill $21.54 (including S&H) Bid on others here
Plaid & Infinity Scarf, Abercrombie & Fitch $26.80 – $6.80 + $5.00 S&H (using RetailMeNot code 15244 for 25% and $5 S&H) = $25.10 Plaid Scarf Available here (Infinity Scarf Sold Out)
Glitter Heels, DSW final clearance $9.99 Available here (I am a little confused because I bought this exact pair in stores for $9.99 but online they are still $29.94– I would check in stores if you are interested in this pair of heels!)
Not Pictured: pv.body new workout gear (top and cropped bottoms) I started a monthly subscription (similar to JustFab, ShoeDazzle, JewelMint, etc. only for workout clothing) as a way to get myself motivated to keep working out. Plus my workout clothing needs a major update! Your first month you can get a 25% discount, so this month’s was: $37.46
Total: $139.03
UPDATE! So I couldn’t resist getting a new dress for my 25th birthday, but wrote and had this post scheduled a few days before (so I could enjoy my birthday weekend without worrying about getting blog stuffs done). Anyway, I found a long sequin dress at Forever21 for $18! It was a steal… so updated budget at $157.03. Still under budget, which makes me happy!
How did you do on your budget this month (if you have one) or what new fun pieces did you get this month?!

December Budget

Recent Purchases

Although I’ve been trying to do a better job of budgeting, I just can’t help myself around the holidays! Thanks to Santa, I had a bit more spending money and thanks to the awesome sales, I ended up with three new pairs of boots, a new pair of neutral heels for work, a lovely pair of emerald earrings and a faux leather navy skirt (both on my Christmas Wishlist seen here)

Recent Purchases

I don’t think anyone would be surprised to know that my recent purchases included Lia Sophia jewelry after hosting a party.  The reason I wanted to share this with you was to let you know how great of a deal you can get on the jewelry line if you host your own party! It is easy, all you do is find a consultant in your area, set up a time, theme and invite your friends, co-workers, neighbors, whoever you’d like! They bring some of their jewelry from the line to share and there is no pressure to buy anything.

If you reach certain hostess goals, you can get credit towards the jewelry, and if your reach certain sales goals (your guests will help you get there) you can receive hostess bonus items, meaning anything under $100, even if it is $98, you get for $15 and all other items are listed at hostess bonus price.  Some may be $20 or $30 but still significantly less than $150 for an item!

So I just got all of these pieces shown above (Dynasty necklace, Versailles earrings, Empress necklace, Candy coated bracelet, Vanity bracelets, Verde bracelet) for $95! Do you see why I host parties now? The quality of jewelry is great and there are always some unique pieces! If you are interested in hosting a party, try to contact a consultant in your area.  If you live in the Twin Cities area, Sarah Baptiste is an amazing consultant who has been to both of my parties! You can email her if you are interested at sarahbaptiste.liasophia@gmail.com. By the way, I am sharing this information out of my own free will, I just love jewelry and accessories and fell in love with a necklace that I had to have and went to my first party. There I fell in love with ALL of the jewelry and realized that I couldn’t afford to pay that much for it. My solution? Hosting a party! You can do it too!
