What I’m Packing for Our Summer Road Trip: Denver, Colorado

What to Pack for a Road Trip

Today is the day! My fiancé Joe, Emma and I are taking off on a road trip tonight and traveling to Denver Colorado. First of all, let me just say how excited I am – I have never been to Colorado and I feel like I’m missing out based on raving reviews I’ve heard from several friends and family members!

There’s nothing more exciting to me than discovering and exploring a new place. I don’t have to be doing anything particularly that exciting to be happy – just exploring a new place, whether a local brewery or talking to people who live there at hip dive bar – is enough to make me literally the happiest girl in the world. And, as much as I love flying, there is something to be said for a road trip across the United States. It’s the American dream, am I right? If you don’t think it is, well… it must be for some people! I remember when I studied abroad that’s all my roommates talked about – flying over to New York or Los Angeles, renting a car and traveling to multiple top U.S. destinations. My friend Mel just wrote an AMAZING packing list for road trips, as her and her husband take them often, but I think she sums it up best:

Though it takes far, far longer, I’m more fond of road-tripping vs flying. You lose something when you are tucked up in the clouds, away from the majestic world below.

Anyway, I definitely seem to have the road trip thing down after two trips to the Carolinas! You can see my summer road trip essentials from my last trip in this post. And for this trip, I’m packing for some hiking days, going out for Joe’s birthday and my sister’s birthday, 4th of July and pool time! See what I’m planning to bring below:

How is it already the almost end of June?! I know summer always seems to fly by, but oh my! I can’t keep up with it all. Oh well, all that means is I’m that much closer to vacation. I’m super exciting to be leaving tomorrow night with my fiancé and dog and heading to Denver to visit my sister and brother-in-law! My fiancé’s birthday is on Thursday and my sister’s birthday is on Sunday, so we have lots to celebrate while we’re there. I’m excited to take our first long road trip with the pup and to go to Denver for the first time! I still can’t believe I’ve never been to Colorado, I only ever hear great things.

This summer, I’ve been wearing this top on repeat. It’s comfy, chic and I love the bright colors. Not to mention it goes well with jeans, shorts, skirts and looks really great with white (check out McKenna’s outfit post wearing it).

Hi everyone! Sorry I was absent last week – I took a trip to DC for a work conference and took Friday off to explore. You can see my excitement via this instagram and this instagram. It was so much fun, and my first time to DC. I stayed at the Churchill Hotel during the conference, but moved to an Airbnb in the Shaw neighborhood Thursday night. This was my first time traveling alone in a long time, and it reminds you to appreciate yourself and never take for granted the time you have with yourself. I do admit missing my fiancé and puppy a lot, but I also really enjoyed exploring DC!

Now onto my outfit – I received top and skirt from Chicwish and love the way they look paired together. It is feminine, yet chic and pretty comfy (except directly in the sun on a hot summer day – much better for a bit cooler weather). Also ladies, this skirt holds it ALL in. I haven’t worked out in the past two weeks and was feely pretty bloated from greasy, gross travel food – but the skirt decided to not reveal my food secrets! Hope you all have a wonderful weekend.
