I had to be good this month because we’re moving, and I’m saving up for a new computer! With extra expenses and moving costs, I didn’t leave a lot of room in my budget, yet I did want to check out the new Target collection, so I added a couple new pieces to my wardrobe.
1. Blue Patterned Crepe Blouse, Adam Lippes for Target – $29.99
2. Long Layering Plaid Vest, Adam Lippes for Target – $39.99
3. Leopard Heels, Dolce Vita – $24.99
Total: $94.97
Lately, I’ve really been focusing on cost per wear. In fact, I kind of started thinking more about it after traveling to Dallas with some girlfriends. Why you ask? Because one of them fell in love with a pair of cowboy boots, adorable and totally her, but even at 40% off, they were still around $240. She was like, how can I even justify spending that much on a pair of boots. Then I heard myself say – because you are going to wear them all the time. They are comfy, and practical, and extremely functional, even in our Minnesota winters. Even if she only wore them once a week (which I’m sure she will plus more) during our 4 6 month winter, she will be paying only a few dollars per wear. That makes them worth it! That’s my new mindset and it’s working well. It helped me say yes to a blouse I love and will actually get a ton of wear out of, and a vest, which although I don’t need more sweater things, I could see myself wearing it with dresses, over blouses with jeans and much more this winter.
Finally, I did have one fun purchase. I will not be wearing the leopard heels a ton, but when you find a good brand of shoes in a style you love for less than $30, it was meant to be, yes? Okay thank you. I agree. Regardless, I was under $100 this month and I can feel really good about that!

how to budget september budget shopping what I bought
Sometimes it’s hard to justify the higher cost, but you’re right. Once you factor in how long you’ll wear it (either through the season or year after year), it’s usually a better deal. Besides, I tend to care for items I invested in more than fast fashion, making them last even longer.
I’m in love with the blouse you picked up. I was at Target on Sunday, but didn’t even think to look at the collection in person!

Absolutely – at first it seems like a lot. That has always been my issue, because when I was younger and didn’t have a lot of money, but wanted a new dress or new outfit for an event, I would just buy the cheapest thing. Sometimes it works out okay that way, but normally it only lasts me a year (if that) before getting completely worn out. I am also starting to take better care of the pieces I spend more on! It’s helping me build a wardrobe too for pieces I actually need along with some of my more “fun” pieces.
Haha! I bet a lot of people did that Sunday, I honestly would have forgotten about the collection except I got something in the mail from Target and I wanted that dog treat jar so badly!
I try to think about cost per wear when I’m buying something but sometimes it’s hard! I love both of those Adam Lippes pieces, especially the vest!

It is really difficult – like really difficult for me! I love a good sale, but I have to remember, a piece on sale for $15 might end up being more on a cost per wear than something over $100!
Can’t stop swooning over the long vest!!!

I totally try to think that way too, but my trips to Forever and Nordstrom always differ. I usually buy everything in my hand at Forever where as, at Nordstrom I know it will last a long time but I may only wear it a few times and is it worth it?

That makes sense! I feel like sometimes it is okay to buy things that you might wear A LOT for just one season, but thinking this way is also helping me get some of those nicer items for long-term wear over the years!
I rarely think about cost per wear when I buy something but in a similar process to determine how many things can it go with in my closet. Loving the long plaid vest and can’t wait to see how you style it.

Hope to see your Thursday for TBT Fashion link up.
I love that idea too! I try to think about that as well – if cost per wear and it goes with a lot – I think it’s a winner 😉
Love those leopard heels! The Adam Lippes pieces are really cute too!

I like to think about cost per wear, versatility, and longevity when I purchase things too. It makes a difference! I prefer not to spend too much on trendy items, but I am ok with paying more for something I know I will have for a long time. I love that vest!
