August 2016 Budget

black bomber jacket

Hello friends! Sorry it’s been awhile. Just got back from Copenhagen on Sunday, and catching up both at home and at the office! It was fun, but also exhausting. Anyway, just a quick update to share my August budget. Once again, I was well behaved, even being tempted with so many gorgeous things from stores in Copenhagen, including a two-hour shopping trip at Magasin Du Nord.

What I Purchased:

Bomber Jacket, Target via Goodwill – $7 (Similar here)

The only thing I purchased this month was a bomber jacket, originally from Target at my local Goodwill. It was basically brand new and only $7! I couldn’t say no, sometimes it is just nice to have a go-to jacket for every day, and at this price, I don’t have to be too worried about losing it. So for $7 this month on clothes, I think I am doing pretty good on budget! How did you do this month?!

1. Cardigan – Nordstrom Rack, Frenchi $9.97

2. Striped Cardigan – Nordstrom Rack, Abound $24.97

3. Faux Fur Trim Poncho – Nordstrom Rack, Cakes & Roses $36.97

4. Reversible Poncho – Nordstrom Rack $14.97

Total: $102.78

This month I was really excited about the cardigans at Nordstrom Rack, but then went back to check out the ponchos. I saw this faux fur trim poncho (also comes in a brown color) the first time I made an order on Nordstrom Rack this month, and had to go back to get it. I couldn’t remember the exact brand, so I searched all ponchos, which is how I ended up with a second poncho. I couldn’t say not for $14.97! These pieces will be great for fall and winter, especially now working in a casual work environment.

I’m not going to lie, ponchos might be my problem child this fall and winters, as I also have my eye on this one and this too. I am fairly happy with the amount I spent this month, but still feel like I have no closet game plan. I swear I’ve been saying this for the last three years (probably because I have), but I need to have more of a plan when it comes to shopping. While I did need cardigans to help mix up and diversify my work wardrobe, I certainly didn’t need two ponchos (although they are pretty, right)? I want to be able to fund purchases I actually want, and will actually use for years to come. I’m adjusting my budget overall and going to start automatically placing money in different savings accounts. I have a separate savings for travel and for a future house down payment, but I think it is time to open one where I can place blog money, PoshMark earnings, and just a little bit from each paycheck and actually buy more of what I want. I’m definitely feeling better about my closet and what’s in it (significantly reduced since this incident), but still have a lot of work to make it what I want it to be!

On that note, we are officially moving again (third year in a row – YAY) but for real yay. I hate moving, but this will be worth it and this should be the last move before something more “permanent”- and perhaps it will give me yet another opportunity to donate some of the items that haven’t had any love since the last move.

How did you do this month? Did you find any must-haves for the upcoming fall and winter seasons?

August Budget

1. Martin Tote– JustFab This TOTE from JustFab is amazing! It is HUGE and looks really expensive in real life, but it was the good old JustFab price of $39.95. I know I am going to get a ton of use out of it, especially on the weekends for shopping or errands where I can just throw everything in it. It is similar to my other JustFab bag, but different material, a darker color. It is different enough for me anyway 🙂 (Similar here and here)

$39.95 + Free Shipping = $39.95

2. Ambrosia Heels– JustFab I said it in a post before, but when I saw these heels I HAD TO HAVE THEM! They are the less expensive version of the Joe’s Jeans heels and I love them! They are professional enough to wear to work, but fun enough that I’m going to wear them everywhere.

$39.95 + Free Shipping = $39.95

3. Virgin Islands Work Out Tank & Maldives Shorts from the Bon Voyage Collection– Ellie I actually own this same tank top in black from their Little Black Collection and the neon/white version from their Cosmic Love Collection, both of which are sold out now, so it is a great, functional and cute top! These shorts are also super comfy and the stripes on the band are just too cute!

$49.95 + Free Shipping (no longer an option if you weren’t already signed up as a member) = $49.95

You can sign up here and get 20% off! You don’t have to be a part of the Fit Fashionista Club to order, but I personally love being a member and even though you have to remember to skip each month being in the club if you don’t want to spend money on work out clothes, it is totally worth it when you do want some work out clothes. You can get a combination of a top and leggings/shorts, two tops, two bottoms, whatever for $49.95!  I have shopped for work out clothes at Target, TJMaxx and what not too, and it is usually at least this price to get two pieces if not more. The items are high quality and when these clothes aren’t all dirty, I am wearing them to run, at the gym, to walk the dog, run errands, etc. They are cute, comfy and high quality. The only thing that is a bummer is that the support for the chest isn’t that great, at least not in the tops I own. But I am a small cup size, so it doesn’t really matter to me at the gym. When I run, I’ll throw a sports bra on underneath. From their newer collections, it looks like at least some of their tops are addressing this issue and most of the leggings now include hidden pockets to place keys, etc. when running or out and about! Anyway, big fan of their work out clothes and wish I could own them all! The only collection I didn’t buy something from was the Summer Splendor collection and not because I didn’t love the clothing, it just wasn’t in my budget last month!

Total: $129.85

I honestly didn’t want to spend more than $50 this month because I am saving up for our move next month. Hello UHaul and Deposit costs (YIKES). But it happened and I’m happy that I got things I will actually get a ton of use out of over time. I have kind of come to a hault on clothing shopping because I’m still not doing a good job buying what I need to have the most functional closet I can AND because my boyfriend and I will be sharing one walk-in closet at our new place. I am used to my own walk-in closet. Should be interesting haha.
