When it was cold on Mother’s Day, instead of opting for my sleeveless, knee-length dress, I decided to throw on my orange blouse from 10DollarMall.com and once again paired it with my white blazer and skinny jeans. On Monday, I shared my blazer and jeans casual style, and today I’m sharing how I dress them up. I added a teal necklace for some interest and was ready to celebrate Mother’s Day! There are tons of other ways to dress up jeans and blazer, but adding a statement necklace, some fancy bracelets and a pair of heels is the simplest way to do it! My poor little sister was trying to e-mail me pictures last night that she took on Mother’s Day (I forgot my camera at home) but the Internet was being very slow. Ever heard the expression “Keep it simple stupid”…? Well this is my new saying for myself on casual Fridays. Sometimes I over think outfits for Fridays, so this week I made it as simple as possible! T-shirt, blazer, skinny jeans, necklace and booties (it was kind of chilly out… I’m really wanting to pull out my gladiators here soon!) And well, I loved the result. And my Sam Edelman booties are everything in this outfit. Just enough to make it interesting and fun! Also, the perfect outfit to drive home in. Since it was cold yesterday on Mother’s Day, I actually ended up wearing this white blazer and jeans for church and hanging out. So I guess it worked out to show you how to style a blazer and jeans casually and later this week I can show you how to dress up a blazer and jeans! Happy Monday!
I am seriously obsessed with the combination of coral and teal or coral and mint. I just think it is fun, vibrant and works really well together. Anytime I mix and match colors at the office, I always want to ensure it is minimal so I don’t freak my co-workers out. Well, I’m pretty sure I freaked them out anyway. Oh well! At least I was having fun, being productive and feeling good about life. Also, how CUTE is this starfish bracelet from InPink? I absolutely love it! Now for Blog Every Day in May, my most embarrassing moments. Trust me, I have A TON of them. I mean my middle name should just be embarrassment. But the most memorable ones deal with tripping. Apparently my last name in German means “clumsy”… I have no idea if this is true, but I’ll take it because my family is very clumsy! So in high school I had a huge crush on my best friend’s older brother (huge no-no, right? meh, he was beautiful!) and while passing him leaving the lunchroom, he was coming down the stairs and I was going up. I started to say hello as I completely wiped out and tripped going UP the stairs. SO embarrassing. Next tripping embarrassment: I was in my senior year of college, and although this might have involved a couple, a few, maybe more beers, I fell down a bar’s stairs in front of a completely full bar. It was one of those moments where everyone goes “OHHHHH” (you know like when someone drops their tray in the lunchroom) and then I stood back up and said “HEYYYYY I’m okay!”… and proceeded to eat two hot dogs. Hey they were always free at this bar and I thought it would help with the whole falling down thing. Classy, I know. Happy Friday everyone!

This past weekend my older sister, her fiance and my parents were in town to take care of some wedding tasks. The wedding is taking place in downtown Minneapolis in October, so they get to travel here to get everything planned. I LOVE it because that means I don’t have to travel and I still get to see my family more this year. Win, win WIN! Anyway, to run errands such as choosing the groom’s tuxedo, taking a look at the chapel and wedding photo opportunities (and grabbing a mid afternoon beer), I thought it would be a great time to wear (and show off) my new floral blazer. I paired it with plain white t-shirt (borrowed from my boyfriend), my teal skinny jeans and mint pumps. With some jewelry accents, like my favorite Lia Sophia bracelets and this gorgeous mint chain link bracelet from Sira & Mara, everything felt just right!

This casual look is totally inspired by something I saw off the streets of London last summer! This outfit was perfect yesterday for hanging out with the family and going about my usual errand-running Sunday. It will also be great in the future for shopping or happy hours/drinks with friends. I LOVE this bright orange blouse, it will be a great addition to my wardrobe as I can pair it with cardigans and blazers for work and scarves or layered necklaces for casual style. These leggings are MY NEW FAVORITE! They are high quality and better than my favorite faux leather leggings that I have been obsessed with for the past few years. I mean they cover up all of the flaws of the lower part of my body, who doesn’t love that? And these glitter oxfords?! How cute are they? Just the perfect touch to this outfit.
So here’s the honest deal for those of you interested in shopping here. Although I wouldn’t make this my first store to shop at if I was building a professional work wardrobe, it has some amazing steals and beautiful pieces (including this blouse that I can and WILL be wearing to the office with a blazer or cardigan). I found that it has amazing blouses that I would wear to work and has pants, leggings, tops and dresses I would definitely wear on the weekends, week nights to happy hour or when I travel. The clothing is fairly high quality and I imagine these pieces will last me awhile. If you go there you will find a great variety of styles, colors and sizes at a great price! I had a hard time choosing from their vast selection, I mean it is worth going through every page to see everything they have.
Last year I created a set on Polyvore entitled What I’m Packing for VEISHEA because I am a very visual person and wanted to make sure I packed all the right things.
VEISHEA for Iowa Staters is just another holiday…. we prep, we plan and we look forward to it each and every year! It is such a fun event that people from all over Iowa come to check it out, even people from surrounding states. And yes, even people from the University of Iowa get their party pants on and actually enjoy their time in Ames. In fact, for being an Iowa native, I might get just as excited for Veishea as Californians get for Coachella.
It is a time to dress your best and bring out all the colorful, fun items for spring. I typically always buy something new for VEISHEA and there are a few items on my packing list that are newcomers to my closet (will be recapping these new purchases at the end of the month). Unfortunately it is going to be kind of chilly (between 40-55 all weekend), so daytime attire of jeans, flats, boots and a trench coat is a must. I am ensuring that I have plenty of options for my three nights there. Like I said, it is a time where everyone is dressed to impress!
VEISHEA is one of the events I look forward to coming back for as an alum of Iowa State University and this year is even more special because my little sister is a freshman there. It will be fun to catch up with friends who are still in Ames and hang out with her while meeting some of her friends. Mostly, I love coming back to Iowa to reminisce on my own experience at Iowa State. And this weekend, it won’t get much better than sleeping my on sister’s futon. Oh the college life, how I miss you!
Yesterday I threw a JustFab party to introduce some of my friends to the brand that I have been obsessed with over the past year. When I first saw an ad for JustFab, I couldn’t resist two pairs of cute shoes for $39.95 (at that time when you signed up you got buy one get one free!) So I signed up, shared how excited I was about it on the blog, and ever since I have rarely skipped a month of purchasing something because I love all of the new styles they come out with on a monthly basis. For the party, I kept it simple. Just had some cheese, fruit and mimosas. I displayed all of my purchases from the past and wore my absolute favorite pair of shoes from there so far: my mint pumps (see other looks here and here). Oh and my favorite handbag, the Hepburn, which unfortunately is still sold out (I am on the wait list for the black version of this bag). I really wanted to call this post “On Mondays We Wear Pants” because lately I have been wearing pants on Mondays. I’m sure that will change with the warmer weather, but when I was hassling with tights throughout the winter, pants are just an easier option when I’m feeling unmotivated on a Monday morning. Yesterday I decided to grab my Firmoo glasses because for some reason they just make me feel more professional and… well… I LOVE THEM. After getting my first pair of Firmoo glasses, I actually won a gift card there and was able to get a couple more pairs. Anyway, since I have weekly meetings with my boss on Mondays, I always want to look professional and be prepared for anything. These glasses helped me have a productive day (okay, I’m going to pretend it was a productive day)!
