You’ve seen the look. You hand him his gift from under the tree, watch with anticipation as he rips open the paper and bam – that flicker of disappointment that turns the genuine smile into something forced. So just how do you ensure that he will turn schoolboy giddy when he sees your present?
Don Draper
How many men do you know that secretly see themselves as Don Draper? So what could be more fitting than getting him a cool vintage suit and tie that looks like it came straight off the set of Mad Men? And you could throw in a box set of DVDs or iTunes voucher, so he can watch his favourite series while looking the part.
Tech Guy
Most men love their gadgets but if they already have the latest smart phone and tablet, you could get them a must-have accessory, such as a portable Bluetooth speaker. These vary tremendously in price and quality, but a well-rated model is the Sony SRS-BTM8. Another must-have for him is a great set of noise-cancelling headphones, such as Bose’s QuietComfort 25. Not the cheapest on the market but they are a definite all-rounder: comfortable, cancel noise effectively and have great sound quality.
Bling Him
Who says jewelery is just for the gals? Chunky silver rings are very on-trend and can add a subtle bit of bling. You’ll need to know his ring size of course but once you do, choose something that won’t be seen on every other guy, such as the Hercule band from NOTHS. While the man in question may not be into chunky metal bracelets, a lot of guys are into leather bangles. Any why not personalize it with a silver ‘charm’ embedded with your fingerprint? Another excellent option is to get him a top quality watch. You’ll need to decide if he’d prefer a vintage look with leather strap, or a futuristic titanium model but an attractive, on-trend watch should definitely get your guy grinning. It should last for years and is the ultimate practical gift that says something about the wearer.
Games
You could indulge him with the latest game console, such as a PS4 or Xbox One. Include at least one game you know he’ll love. Either browse through his collection for ideas or ask one of his friends for advice on which console and game he’d prefer. The jury’s out over which of these two models is ultimately better; it comes down to loyalty and the games available for each format. On the other hand, if your man is old school with his toys, then take him right back to primary with a Scalextric set. You’ll be able to watch all your favorite TV shows, while he enjoys hours racing little cars round a track.
If you want to ensure your gift is truly loved and appreciated, walk away from the amusing sweater or tie organizer. Get inside his mind and consider one the ideas here!
