September 2014 Budget

September 26, 2014

af1092e425a043c2fc90dd320f386db9

Oh and my August budget too because I completely forgot to do this/was in North Carolina at the time! Anyway, September was a huge thrifting month for me. I have been really editing my closet lately and had a lot of older work blouses, pants and skirts. I was literally down to one pencil skirt, one pair of pants and four work blouses.

I went thrifting with my mom when my parents came to visit last weekend, and we stopped by three of the local Goodwills. I hit the jackpot (or so I’d like to think)! Here is a recap of everything I found for work (sorry I don’t have pictures of any of these items yet):

    • 1 Apt. 9 Blouse
    • 2 Banana Republic Blouses
    • 1 Nine West Blouse
    • 1 Vintage Pussy-Bow Blouse
    • 1 Pair of Banana Republic Pants
    • 1 Pair of Express Pants
    • 1 J.Crew Sleeveless Blouse
    • 1 Ann Taylor Short-Sleeve Blouse
    • 1 White House/Black Market Tweed Pencil Skirt
    • 1 Talbots Tweed Pencil Skirt
    • 1 Calvin Klein Dress
    • 1 Pair Gap Skinny Jeans
    • 1 Unknown Brand Skinny Brown Belt

And the grand total was just slightly less than $100! Now I will mention what I’ve said before about thrifting… it is never my intention to just buy anything and everything when I’m thrifting (even though it is tempting). I abide by the same rules I set for myself when I shop online or at the mall… only buy it if I really love it and can already pair it with something in my closet or if I really need to replace something I recently got rid of or is wearing out. I was in desperate need of some new work clothes and basics at that, so to find all of these brands and paying prices at $8 or less, I am very happy with what I got!

Felt Fedora, Asos – $38.09 (Sold Out, Similar)

Knitted Turban, Asos – $5.71 (Mine is ivory)

Asos Total: $43.80 (Free Shipping)

Goodwill Total: ~ $100

September Total: $143.80

In September I was able to review this scarf and these heels from Sole Society. See the outfit post and more details here.

And back to August! I did not buy much because I was saving up for our trip to North Carolina, but I did buy a couple dresses while I was there and purchased the dress I wore to the wedding in August. I had a giftcard to Kohl’s that I also used to get the shoes and earrings.

karen kane dress

Dress, Karen Kane via Nordstrom (Similar here) – $88

Heels, Kohls (with Gift card)

Earrings, Kohls (with Gift card)

Maxi Dress and Blush Pink Dress from boutique in Charlotte, NC (not pictured) – $52

August Total: $140

In August I was also able to review this dress, bracelet and sunglasses from OASAP, you can see my outfit post and review here.

I haven’t really had a set budget for clothing each month over the past six months or so. I have really just been trying to cut back, but also don’t want to be hard on myself if I don’t always meet my budget. Clearly, sticking to the idea that I only want to buy things I need or will really use is helping me stay under $150, which is great! Also, sorry for the lack of visuals.. I was too lazy to take pictures of each and every item (I know I’m a bad blogger).

Budget posts are so fun! I guess it’s the nosiness in me but it’s fun to see how other people spend their money and what you get for it. I hope we get to see some of your great thrifting deals in outfit posts to come!

I agree — it is super fun to see what others find and buy each month! I have found some super good deals through the other bloggers who link up in Budgeting Bloggers! AND YES! You sure will… just purchased everything last weekend, and I did wear quite a bit this week, but no outfit photos, not yet at least 🙂

It does sound like you hit the jackpot! When I go to thrift stores I never seem to find anything for myself. I don’t get to go often because I would have to travel a couple of hours to do some good thrifting.

You both look wonderful and I love that black lace dress. I need to create a budget for myself as well, I feel like I have not been doing that.

Every month I say I’m going to set stricter goals, because you make it seem so easy. However, in Septemrber the only thing I’ve bought is two new pairs of shoes and a pair of bell bottoms, all with gift cards, so I don’t feel too salty this month!

You bought some gorgeous accessories last month. Rachel. Love them all especially the camel hat and herringbone pumps. I also love the dressy looks of you and your friend. Did you wear those to a wedding? Don’t you just love a Black Lace Dress?

It’s been awhile and A LOT has happened in our w It’s been awhile and A LOT has happened in our world since I last posted to my feed. There is a lot I want to say and I will be posting a lot more soon, but first & foremost...

Black Lives Matter.

I wish I had posted about this in my feed sooner, but I honestly didn’t know what to say or how to say it. I spent way too long overthinking it versus just doing it. I know that’s not an excuse, and I know I have to do better. I’ve been spending a lot of time reflecting and educating myself as well as finding ways to help and be proactive. I am committing myself to do more and do better. I know it’s not enough and I’m not sure it will ever be enough... but I will never stop trying.

The most important thing I learned is that my silence in the past was unacceptable and a huge part of the problem. I thought not knowing what to say and worrying about saying the wrong thing meant it was ok to be silent. It WAS NOT and IS NOT ok.

I have so much more to learn and to do, but one thing is for sure... I will no longer be silent. I will continue to keep the anti-racism resources link in my bio - as it has been a great resource for me and know it has been for many others. Again, I’m not excusing myself for not posting in my feed sooner but I will continue to share and hope to keep the momentum going 🖤 Black Lives Matter 🖤
Hey friends! How are you?! We made it through anot Hey friends! How are you?! We made it through another *very unusual* & crazy/scary week. I hope you are staying safe & well!
.
Yesterday we took Emma @emmaminiaussie to the vet for her annual vet check up. It was her first appointment at a new vet since our move, and we had to let her go in alone. My anxiety has been off the charts lately, as I’m sure it has been for many of you, and heightened even more by this. Emma is truly our child, our daughter, and I am always anxious wanting to ensure she’s happy and doing well.
.
Sitting outside in the car waiting for the call from our new vet was difficult, but I’m so happy to report her health at almost 8 years old is wonderful! She’s thriving and it makes my heart so happy. Another great reminder during these times to be thankful for what matters most - your health and your loved ones’ health (including your fur babies 🐶). So with another long caption today just wishing health and safety to all of you right now! And another thank you to essential workers on the frontlines ❤️🙏🏻 #emmatheminiaussie #loveconquersall #stayhealthy
Hello Instagram family… it’s been awhile. I ha Hello Instagram family… it’s been awhile. I have not posted in my feed since February… and so this is going to be a long one since life as we know it has completely changed over the past month.
I decided I needed a mental break from Instagram - not all social media - just Instagram. I have been unmotivated to post on this particular platform and was constantly posting old photos/photoshoots just to have something to post. So I took a break to refresh.
Well, as you know, things started to escalate pretty quickly with COVID-19. I was just about ready to start posting again and BOOM. Just like that, everything in our world changed. It didn’t feel right to post my latest outfit at that moment…
Things are still escalating, but I’m back here today because I’m longing for connection more than ever and because I want to say THANK you to so many people.
Things are scary right now. They are uncertain and unfathomable. We are all trying to adapt to a new normal. I don’t have much to add to what others have been saying, but I do want to say I’m thinking of and praying for everyone, especially those directly affected by the pandemic.
I also want to say thank you to everyone putting their lives at risk to help our country and our world during this time. Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU to healthcare workers, delivery drivers, grocery store workers, pharmacy/drugstore workers, app-based gig workers out in the field, restaurants who are feeding healthcare workers and feeding children lunches, teachers going above and beyond, to those helping get their parents, grandparents, friends, neighbors and others who are vulnerable the essentials they need to get through this. You are all HEROES and I can never express enough gratitude for what you are doing.
I don’t have much else to say, but I hope to continue to connect with you all again on this platform. THANK YOU to everyone who is putting an effort into making a difference during this pandemic. Staying home means so much right now if you are able to! We will get through this together if we work together. Stay safe, stay well, and be kind ❤️ #stayhome #besafe #thankyou
Happy Valentine’s Day my love ❤️❤️❤️ Happy Valentine’s Day my love ❤️❤️❤️ love you with all I am 💕💕💕#valentinesday2020 #myhusband #myvalentine
