Today is my 24th birthday and I am very excited about it! I told myself at 21 that I didn’t want to get any older, and who knew that in just a few years I would grow and learn so much (and even though 21 was a lot of fun, there was still plenty of fun to have). For awhile, life was about learning as much as possible, usually lessons stemming from my mistakes. But now, although I continue to learn everyday and have much, much more to learn in life, I feel that I am at a point where I have set goals and am really making decisions for myself, which is exciting and scary at the same time!
Reflections:
I have often wondered what it is like to have two ways to view a new year… one at the start of January and one at your birthday—you know midsummer or further away from January 1st. (If you’re birthday is late November through early February I’m sure you know what I’m talking about!) For me, a new calendar year means a new age and everything in between. Although I just reflected a month ago, I find myself thinking about changes in my life throughout this past year, both good and bad. I must say I am very happy and so lucky to be where I am and to have the most amazing people in my life. I am looking forward to celebrations with people who have been there for me through thick and thin… at my worst and at my best.
Celebration:
Last night I had a birthday eve dinner with my boyfriend at a hibachi grill with steak and sushi, and it was amazing! We have always enjoyed getting sushi together, so it is a special treat to have dinner with him as well as reminisce on when we first started hanging out!
Tonight I will celebrate with my boyfriend and friends for a happy hour at an Italian restaurant just outside of Minneapolis. It will be good to catch up with friends from my previous job and have a few drinks.
Tomorrow we leave for Iowa to visit some of my friends who I miss dearly, and we will celebrate with a small masquerade party on Saturday night! I cannot explain my excitement for this party because I have always wanted to be a part of one… my friends had a masquerade party over a year ago but I was in a wedding the same weekend, so I guess this is their way of treating me on my birthday since I missed the first one.
Stay tuned through this weekend for more birthday updates and my outfits: both from today (an outfit that goes from work to drinks) and I will show my birthday dress and mask for the party!
