Next Friday I am taking off for Chicago to meet up with a bunch of my best girlfriends and celebrate not one, but THREE, yes three lovely ladies’ upcoming nuptials.
Lately I have been missing the mark on packing for weekend trips (whoops no toothbrush), so I wanted to make sure I was well prepared for this upcoming trip. We will be staying in Friday night at the hotel in downtown Chicago, going to the beach all day Saturday and then going out in little black dresses (the bachelorettes in white dresses of course) celebrating on a trolley and going to various bars. This will be my third weekend-long bachelorette trip, so I thought I would share some of my packing tips!
- Know or at least have a good idea of what you are going to be doing and then pack accordingly! This trip was very easy for me because they made a clear and set schedule: Friday night in, Saturday at the beach and Saturday night out in a black dress. If the event planner (usually the maid of honor, or in this case, maids of honor) doesn’t 100% know your plans, bring a dressy and casual option. Obviously if you are going to a cabin and doing more outdoorsy activities, bring tennis shoes, bug spray and all the other necessities!
- Pack light! If you are flying and staying in a room with a few or even more other girls, don’t be that girl and take over the shared room with your stuff! You want to make sure you have everything you need, but wear on the plane what you are planning to wear that night (I will want to wear a cobalt blue dress + cognac sandals knowing we will just be hanging out, but wanting to look nice in case we go down to the hotel’s bar). Bring outfits for going out, daytime activities and your flight home, as well as PJs (which I did not display) but DON’T bring more. It isn’t necessary. Remember, less is more, and you want to share the space with the other girls that will be there.
- Bring cash or a check to pay the event planner for things like hotel stay, tickets to something, etc. Trust me, being the maid of honor for my sister’s wedding, the last thing I wanted to do was remind people before the event to bring money for me (my sister actually booked it but I collected the money for her). No one likes bringing up that subject, even asking for the money in the first place, so be on top of it and bring a little extra cash just in case!
- Bring cash in general. I am the person who never has cash on me because I spend it too freely. In my mind, if it is out of my account, it is free game! Some people spend cash less easily than a card, but it all depends. For a night out, having cash to pay for your drinks, dinner and the bride-to-be’s drinks and other fun is going to make life a lot easier. You won’t leave your debit or credit card at a random bar, and if all of your dinners go on one bill, you can more easily split the check!
- Hair tools: Talk to some of your girlfriends who are attending the party weekend and decide who will bring a curling iron, straightener, blow drier, etc. Honestly, at this time I have NO idea how I’m going to do my hair that night, but can you picture 20 + girls ALL bringing even one of these tools? It makes more sense to have a few of each, not 20 of each. I certainly don’t want to pack all three hair tools.
- Gifts, accessories, etc. If you are bringing gifts or playing a lingerie type game, don’t forget to pack those with you as well! If the bride-to-be or event planner asks you to not bring something, then don’t! Respect them and what they ask for. Not everyone wants crazy party favors or gifts!
Are you attending any bachelorette parties this summer? What tips do you have for packing? P.S. I thought this bachelorette etiquette article on LaurenConrad.com was a great article!
