Today I turn 29. Today I begin my last year in my twenties. Today, I am ready to evolve.
Today is completely different. Because of the choices I made yesterday. And the hope I have for tomorrow.
While normally this is my attempt at a “poetic” way to describe the past, present and future, these words are quite literal. Yesterday was my last day at my job. Tomorrow I start a new job. And today is the first day in a long time I feel excited and renewed in a way I can’t describe.
My year of 28 was both the best and most challenging in many ways. I began a new exciting journey to plan my wedding with my best friend, but I also went through some personal struggles that can only heal with time.
The most important thing I learned as a 28-year-old was courage. Courage is something I’ve taken for granted, or rather, haven’t really mastered until now. Liquid courage is a phrase for a reason because normally it allows people to express themselves freely. Telling the truth. Saying something that’s unpopular. Being different. Courage also means standing up for those who can’t stand up for themselves or don’t have a voice.
And so I’m beyond ready to tackle this last year in my twenties. To continue to be courageous, to take on change without fear, to plan our exciting day with my best friend and enjoy every moment of being engaged, and to look forward to what’s to come.
For the first time in a long time, I am content. I am happy. I am ready.
So bring it on 29! I can’t wait to make this the best year yet.
